{"id":23,"date":"2014-02-10T23:56:52","date_gmt":"2014-02-10T23:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/faculty.pencol.edu\/esl\/?page_id=23"},"modified":"2017-03-21T18:23:57","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T18:23:57","slug":"songs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/faculty.pencol.edu\/esl\/songs\/","title":{"rendered":"Songs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Songs are a great way to practice listening and to learn the rhythm of the English language.\u00a0 I try to find songs that tell a simple story and are fairly easy to understand.\u00a0 I usually remove the stressed words in the song, which are the most clearly spoken.\u00a0 I make two or three different levels of cloze activities, with lots of words removed for advanced students, and much fewer for beginners \u2013 but all the missing words on the beginner cloze are also on the advanced cloze, so you only have to go through the answers once.\u00a0 Sometimes I\u2019ll include discussion questions and a link to the song on YouTube.\u00a0 Remember, students can practice rhythm and pronunciation by singing the songs, too;
